What are they?
The Oriental and German cockroaches are the
most common species in the UK. The Oriental
Cockroach grows to about 25mm. The German
cockroach is the smaller of the two at about
15mm and prefers a hotter more humid
environment. Both can carry many germs and
can be the cause of dysentery and
gastro-enteritis. Germs are spread from the
cockroaches’ body and the droppings that
they leave around your home or business.
Cockroaches will feed on almost anything
including faecal matter. Germs can be spread
when the cockroach comes into contact with
foodstuffs and kitchen utensils.
How do they live?
Cockroaches are nocturnal and will hide
during the day in cracks and crevices around
drains, sinks, cookers and in ducting.

adult cockroaches in miniature and have to
go through several moults before emerging as
